What is GTEP?

GTEP stands for Group Traumatic Episode Protocol. It uses the therapeutic approach of EMDR (all the acronyms!!) Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing in a group setting. See my post on EMDR for more information.
GTEP allows people to come together as a group. Perhaps they have experienced a shared traumatic experience or perhaps they simply work together in the same organisation.
Like EMDR part of GTEP is building coping resources and individual resilience.

GTEP is a private and quiet process. People do not share their distressing memories in the group. We do encourage people to share their resources and their positive coping skills so we can all enjoy and expand the strengths. Sometimes people like to share the experience of GTEP - how it felt, how they feel now. It can be remarkable how a memory can start so potent and move into feeling smaller and reduced - people often like talking about this and sharing the release.
At ROAR Compassion we offer group EMDR. We know people and teams don't need to carry around a rucksack of distress and it can be a moving and positive experience to share with a group.
